Vinyl sheet & tiles

Vinyl is usually installed in hospital or laboratory areas as it has a smooth and hygienic finish that is very easy to maintain and relatively easy to install. The only downside to it is that when it is wet it will become slippery. It is usually something that would last in a hospital environment for approximately 10 years and the ranges come in a huge array of colours and designs so can work very well with creating borders or feature areas.

When laid in sheet form, and the joints are hot welded it becomes fully water proof. This is something that requires a professional floor layer to do. It has to be installed fully bonded to a smooth and sound sub-floor at all times. As it is usually only 2mm thick it can show imperfections in the sub-floor if it is not prepared correctly. Over a concrete floor it will require a coat of latex smoothing compound, over a wooden sub-floor (depending on the type) it would require plywood, the correct preparation would be determined during our initial inspection.

Smooth Vinyl flooring is a hygienic option for all types of areas as the technology has improved so much over the last decade. Manufacturers now have created a system called PUR (polyurethane reinforced) which is a coating that is applied to all of the layers of vinyl when it is produced to enable easy cleaning for the life time of the product. It stops staining and dirt being ingrained into the material reducing maintenance costs. Typical areas of use are classrooms, dining areas, retail areas, hairdressers etc. Leading manufacturers include Polyflor, Tarkett, Gerflor and Altro.
